When Tommy originally released An Ras in 1991 on Mulligan Records, it was the first recording issued by an Irish percussionist and is now regarded as a standard in Irish music. An Ras shows off the range of his talents, with an emphasis on bodhrán and features guest musicians Brian Dunning (flute and whistle), Alasdair Fraser (fiddle), Tommy Halferty (acoustic bass and guitar), Kieran Hanrahan (banjo and mandolin) Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill (vocals), Mícheál Ó Domhnaill (guitar) and Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin (piano).
